Creative Sports Coaching – Community Action Projects

Greener Schools for Luton

We're proud to launch Our Greener Schools for Luton project - an exciting new project designed to inspire climate action and environmental responsibility among local primary school pupils. Funded by London Luton Airport's (LLA) Greener Future Fund and administered by the Bedfordshire & Luton Community Foundation 9BLCF), the project supports LLA's commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

The Fund focuses on promoting biodiversity and carbon reduction through education and innovation within a 5 mile radius of the airport. Our Greener Schools for Luton will engage four Luton primary schools in a six-week programme of fun, pupil-led workshops that highlight the importance of making sustainable choices. Each weekly sessions focuses on key environmental topics such as waste reduction, pollution, biodiversity, recycling and reducing carbon emissions. Pupils will explore how individual and collective behaviour can drive meaningful change across the schools and communities.

The programme kicks off with a whole-school assembly introducing pupils and staff to the projects goals, while raising awareness of local environmental challenges. It will conclude with a whole-school social action action project, where each school will compete for the title of Best Environmental Impact. Throughout the project, pupils will be encouraged to take the lead - identifying problems and co-designing practical solutions. Their actions may include initiatives such as a school litter pick, reducing food and material waste, improving recycling habits, promoting walking to school, or creating wildlife-friendly green spaces on school grounds.

Our aim is to empower pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to champion sustainability in their schools and beyond. By turning learning into action, we hope to nurture a generation that feels inspired and equipped to protect and improve their environment.

Together, we can build greener schools, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future for Luton.

Throughout each school term we will be working closely with our partner schools in running a community action project which is aimed to improve, support and make a difference with the local communities.

Each community action project is aimed to be sustainable, effective and safe for those who are taking part in the action or are feeling the benefit from the community action project.

Through discussions with pupils, teaching staff and our CSC (Creative Sports Coaching) staff we identify an area to action during the first half of a term and begin to start the action during the second half of a term.

If you feel we can support any local community action initiatives please do get in touch. info@creativesportscoaching.co.uk.
